• Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board - 3 vacancies - 2 for terms expiring December 31, 2023, and 1 for a term expiring December 31, 2024 (Up to one member may reside within the Urban Growth Area, otherwise, must be a City resident)
• Community Development Block Grant Advisory Board - 3 vacancies (must be a City resident)

General Volunteer Opportunities

City staff occasionally are in need of assistance with tasks such as outreach, neighborhood cleanups, or hosting community events. If you might be willing to help, we invite you to fill out and submit the form on this page. Your response will go to the Human Resources Department and will be kept confidential.

Library Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Library. There are always opportunities for volunteers to help us at the WWPL. We need instructors in our media lab, volunteers in our Young People’s Department and the collective efforts of those who join the Friends of the WWPL.

Parks & Recreation Volunteer Opportunities

The Parks and Recreation Department welcomes volunteers. Contact our office for more details and to set up a schedule. Listed below are examples of current projects, but please suggest others if you have a special interest, skill or need.

Spring and Fall Cleanup

Parks, Recreation and Urban Forestry Advisory Board
The City Council appoints nine citizens to provide advice to City Council and the Municipal Arborist on relevant parks, recreation and tree issues. The advisory board meets monthly. A term on the board is for three years.

Police Volunteer Opportunities

The Police Department is committed to a partnership with volunteers and integrating them as an important part of our organization. Annually, the Police Department provides 12 hours of specialized volunteer training. If you are interested in any of the positions below, please visit this page or call 509.527.4434.

Requirements to be a volunteer:

• A strong desire and a commitment to serve your community. We accept applications continually.
• All applicants must complete an application and submit to a background check.
• A minimum number of hours of commitment.

Block Watch
Contact victims of crimes, and inform them of the various services available through the Walla Walla Police Department; invite them to become actively involved in the Block Watch Program.

Block Watch Captains
Organize and represent your neighbors in an organized Block Watch Program.

Clerical Assistance
Put your office skills to work for the betterment of your community. We have continuing needs for general office and clerical support. This may include answering the phone, greeting the public, typing, filing, assisting with informational mailers, and computer data entry.

Graffitti Abatement

Records
This volunteer position is supervised by the Records Unit to scan old police documents into the current records system.

McGruff the Crime Dog
Help us take a bite out of crime by wearing the McGruff costume at a variety of crime prevention functions.

Newsletter Editor
Compose a local weekly Crime Watch Bulletin with information involving McGruff House, Block Watch, Business Watch, and Crime Prevention Tips and Concerns.

Radar Reader Board
Deliver, set up, and take down the Radar Reader Board at a variety of locations in our area, to assist with our Traffic Safety Program. This volunteer service requires a volunteer time commitment of one week per month for a short period of time each morning and evening.
