Sales Tax
The current retail sales tax rate for the City of Walla Walla is 8.9%, of which 6.5% goes to the state of Washington and the remainder stays in this region, including .2% which is earmarked for transportation improvements.
Property Tax
Property tax assessment and collection is managed by the County of Walla Walla. Approximately 25% of each property owner’s tax bill is distributed to cities to support libraries, parks and recreation, and emergency medical services.
Refuse Tax
The solid waste tax of 3.6% is a fee for solid waste collection, transfer, or disposal remitted to the state. It is not a sales tax.
Utility Excise Tax
Per RCW 35.92.460 Utility fee or tax – Disclosure:
The City of Walla Walla utility excise rates for Water, Sewer, Stormwater, Sanitation and Landfill include a Utility Excise Tax, at 13.8% valid through 2024, 14.2% valid through 2025 and 14.6% valid through 2026 and will remain in effect until amended, altered or revoked. This tax is deposited to the City’s general fund to be used for capital project improvements to the City’s infrastructure; however a portion is used for construction and maintenance of street improvements. Other Taxes
Gambling and utility taxes are assessed to certain entities providing those services within the City of Walla Walla.
