Technically known as Walla Walla Emergency Services Communications, we are known to our users as "WESCOM" or "Dispatch."
The Police Department's Division of Dispatch provides 911 call answering to the 61,000 residents of Walla Walla County, which covers an area of approximately 1,300 square miles. We dispatch for:
- College Place Fire Department
- Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office
- Walla Walla Police Department
- Walla Walla Fire Department
- College Place Police Department
- Rural fire districts 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8
- USVA Police
We also handle non-emergency requests for public works and utility problems. Our Center is:
- Operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
- Staffed by 12 dispatchers, three Supervisors, an Administrative Secretary, and a Dispatch Manager
- Handles approximately 111,000 calls for service annually, of which more than 24,000 are emergency 9-1-1 calls
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact one of our on-duty supervisors or the Public Safety Communications Manager.
When do you call 9-1-1?
- When there is a medical emergency, fire, or immediate threat to a person or property. For non-emergency situations, please call 509-527-1960.
- Do NOT call 9-1-1 for information. You can get information on social services in our area by calling 2-1-1.
- Do NOT call 9-1-1 to report power outages. Contact your utility company for power outages.
Text to 9-1-1. When and why?
- Additional method of communication for individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech impaired.
- When you need to reach 9-1-1 but are concerned about alerting others that 911 is being contacted, such as an in-home invasion or when near an abusive partner, or if the caller is in a location where cell phone coverage is unreliable.
- When you need to text 9-1-1, make sure to enter the location of the emergency and the type of emergency. Keep the text messages brief and refrain from using emojis, slang or special characters. Stay with your phone to follow further instructions from dispatchers.
You called 9-1-1 by mistake, it happens. So what should you do?
- DON'T HANG UP! When the 9-1-1 call taker answers the phone, simply tell the dispatcher that you called by mistake. If you just hang up, the call taker does not know if an emergency actually exists at the location from which the call originated. They will call you back to ensure you are safe or may even send a police officer to the address to be sure there is not a problem.
9-1-1 and your cell phone - what's your location?
- When calling 9-1-1 from your cell phone, know your location! Your location does not automatically appear when calling 9-1-1 with a cell phone. 9-1-1 needs to know where the emergency is before help can be sent. Know your exact location, including cross streets, mileposts, or landmarks. Give the dispatcher your cell phone number, including area code.
If your 9-1-1 call is disconnected, call again.

Message from the Manager:
We are the Calm Voice in the Storm.
WESCOM is the primary conduit between our callers and the responding agencies. The lifeline to many. They gather pertinent information to have emergency personnel dispatched appropriately and in a timely manner. 9-1-1 dispatchers are the “first, first responders.”
Operating under an interlocal agreement, we provide services to multiple agencies. We are administered under the City of Walla Walla for operational purposes.
I am proud to be part of such a fundamental part of our community.
