Veterans Memorial Pool uses a two-color wrist band system to help identify all non and emergent swimmers: Green Fish and Blue Fish.
Green Fish
- Green Fish are all NON swimmers and/or children age 4 and under.
- Green Fish bracelets let lifeguards AND patrons know of non and emergent swimmers for an EXTRA level of safety.
- Green Fish bracelets are available free of charge at the Front Desk as you check in, so get yours today!
Blue Fish
- All swimmers who are 48" in height OR under AND want to swim in the DEEP END must be a Blue Fish.
- To become a Blue Fish, swimmers must pass the A.R.C. Water Competency Test.
FIRST...
- Swim 25 yards without stopping or touching bottom.
THEN...
- Jump into the water over your head.
- Return to the surface and float or tread water for one minute.
- Turn around in a full circle and find an exit.
If you pass, you are a Blue Fish and can swim wherever you want! You will be given a Blue Fish bracelet and your name will be recorded in the Blue Fish binder.
If you do NOT pass, you can take the test once a visit as you work on your swimming ability.
See the Front Desk to sign up for the Blue Fish testing today!
Note: Lifeguards can also request Blue Fish testing for struggling swimmers.
