Funding for the Pioneer Park Wedding Fountain restoration project was available through City of Walla Walla utility round-up donations, a state grant from the State of Washington, and private donations. A special thank you goes to Shirley Ruble for assisting with the grant application and to Representative Jenkin for supporting it.
The 110-year-old fountain has been sand blasted and powder coated. The concrete base was removed and a new base was constructed. New wiring and lights were installed to illuminate the fountain in a rainbow of colors. The crab apple trees have been removed in preparation for 9 new ornamental flowering trees to be planted later this fall. Staff will complete the surrounding landscaping in the near future.
Prior to this project the fountain was only turned on during rentals as the water in the fountain exited the fountain and went to City sewer. The current project included installation of a recirculating water system that will allow the fountain to remain on continuously.
The completion of this project has been delayed to due COVID-19 restrictions. The dedication ceremony will be held fall of 2020 or spring 2021.
