Vision
The goal is to create an engaging, open, and accessible space for children and adults of all abilities to gather together to build community through creative play, natural spaces, and learning, by developing emotional, physical and mental health.
The new Pioneer Park Playground will be a gathering place for everyone, not just kids. Children and adults alike — no matter their level of ability — will be able to interact with each other, regardless of the particular playground element.
The emphasis on natural play elements (hills, logs, etc.) will make the facility more sustainable, with fewer parts to repair and maintain.
The Concept
Background
In 2019 a committee was formed to come up with a concept and raise funds for a new adaptive playground to replace the current Pioneer Park playground, which was installed in 2003 and has come to the end of its useful life.
(Please note: This project is to replace the playground, and does not include repairs of the walls around the large pond at Pioneer Park. The City engaged a consultant to provide recommendations on permanent repairs to the pond walls, and staff are currently working to identify the scope and costs to move forward with this work.)

Projected Cost and Funding
The project is estimated to have a total cost of $3 million. The organizers' goal is to have $1 million in local dollars committed by spring of 2024, to be supplemented by an anticipated $2 million in grant funds. Construction is anticipated to take place in 2026.
The Parks Division is hosting a fundraiser via GoFundMe, with the goal of raising $1 million toward the playground's construction. Click the button below for more information and to make a donation.
