What is the Walla Walla Register of Historic Places?
The city's historic register is an important planning and public education tool. It documents properties that form Walla Walla's built environment heritage and are significantly associated with the history, architecture, archaeology, engineering, or cultural heritage of the community, for which there is also a public benefit in their preservation.
Designated resources that are preserved and rehabilitated are eligible for property tax relief through the Special Tax Valuation Program. The Walla Walla Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) maintains this register and reviews properties for inclusion. The HPC is a citizen advisory commission that makes recommendations to City Council, the mayor, and City departments on the conservation of Walla Walla's historic resources.
