Origami is the art of paper folding, which is often associated with Japanese culture. In modern usage, the word "origami" is used as an inclusive term for all folding practices, regardless of their culture of origin. Origami is an easily accessible art form that encourages focus, creativity, and spatial perception. The Walla Walla Public Library catalog includes several titles featuring origami and other paper arts, which can be found in the library catalog at https://bit.ly/WWPLOrigamiWorkshop. About the artist: Akiko Gilmore upcycles and remakes bags, baskets, cards, and accessories from pre-owned materials from kimonos to milk cartons. Originally from Japan, she was “taught by my grandparents and parents who have suffered during and after WWII; I naturally use things respectfully, mend them, remake them, and use them again.” Many of her pieces are featured on her Etsy site SekiWorks, including origami cards.
