This is the first event in the Big Idea Talk series of three winter programs called The Great American Read.  Local English professors selected personal favorites from The Great American Read list featured on PBS and will discuss themes of other worlds, identity, and love.  

First published in the 1950s, The Fellowship of the Ring is the first volume in the epic trilogy The Lord of the Rings. At this program Brad La Fran will discuss how reading about the fictional world of Middle-earth can help us better understand our own world.  Brad La Fran is an English Instructor at Walla Walla Community College.
